Musicians & Venues: Please
note that this DI Y Gig listing is fully dependent on musician involvement
in adding and adjusting info on upcoming and ongoing gigs to help in spreading
the word on what you do.
One
advantage of the DIY listing is that it allows you to include up to 2000 characters
to describe your event including any web or e-mail links.
The DIY process is pretty straight forward.
After clicking www.localendar.com,
use the standard musician User
ID, mygig and Password giglist.
This
will access the schedule for the current month. From that page you can add
gigs for either the current or future months. You can move to the next or
other months using the right arrow. This allows you to add gigs for future months,
see what upcoming gigs are listed for you and to adjust them if necessary.
Then, either click the Add Event
for a new event or click on your existing event to make any adjustments needed.
If adding an event, enter in the Subject line your
band or event name along with the venue name, e.g. my band @ x venue.
Use
the Save button to add a new gig or the Update
button to save an amended gig on the schedule. You can also delete any gigs
that have been cancelled using the Delete button.
You
can add an image to your listing, f rom whatever's available in the various standard
categories. And, you're able to pick a colour for your entry if you want one
by clicking the colour button. It's also possible to add your own image. The
way to do this is covered below.
I've
entered most of the ongoing gigs I know to help the artists get the process started. The
ongoing listings at this time run to Dec 31 2010 unless adjusted due to cancellations.
DIY
Calendar is Owned & Operated by Musicians & Other Users
This
service and its effectiveness is primarily in the hands of the Ottawa musician
community who I consider are its primary owners and operators.
Ottawa Blues, Jazz & Swing Guide simply hosts your
service, monitors it for problems and helps with troubleshooting and guidance.
Click
HERE for a more graphic illustration
of the process.
1.
The sign in area where you enter the standard musician User
ID, mygig and Password giglist,:
2.
Once you sign in, at this next screen you can either click on Add
Event for a new event or on your existing event if there's some change
or it needs to be deleted if no longer on.
3.
Then, you'll see the event entry screen below where you can enter your gig's
details as Jazzworks did.
Include
the band name and venue in the Title
and the rest of the gig info in Description (up
to 2000 characters including web and e-mail links).
A web link was added
as shown by highlighting Jazzworks Jam as shown and clicking on the chain
link icon in the Format area.
Be
sure to select the right event date, start time and duration.
If you forget, and add the event on the wrong day, the default date is the
current day.
So, to put the event on the right day, when the editable
calendar comes back, just go to the current day on the calendar and click on
your event again to change the day. |
You
can choose a background colour for the listing by clicking the colour button.
4. You can include one of your own images as part
of the Description as long as it resides in some
web space area and you know the URL that links to it..
Just click on the
spot in the Description where you'd like the image.
Then click on the tree just to the right of the anchor icon . In the Image
URL area, all you need to do is enter the URL where the image resides along
with its file name.
If
you don't have your own web space area, send me the image, I'll upload it
to my area and send you the URL involved.
You
can easily add a link to your web site.
Just highlight your band name or
web address whichever you wish to display, click on the chain
link icon, to the left of the anchor icon in the Format area, enter the
URL info for your web address and click on Submit (or
Update for any changed address). (NOTE: this doesn't work with Safari
on the MAC. Use the Firefox browser instead.)
5.
You can add a thumbnail image that appears on the
calendar with your gig if you wish from those standard ones available if you
select Add an image.
Either choose a suitable
one from those available or upload one as clip art from your own images, for
example a band logo, portrait, etc.
Please
keep any clip art image to not wider than 130 pixels
to stay within the maximum width calendar. Larger images clip off the last
day or two (Thurs., Fri., Sat.) or more.
6. Two important things to
remember on using clip-art:
- The clip art area is a SHARED
area between you and other users. It is NOT
your area exclusively. PLEASE leave others' clip-art alone.
If you delete
items that you aren't responsible for, you adversly affect other people's
listings on the calendar for no good reason.
-
The clip-art feature is intended ONLY to have your
thumbnail size images on the calendar to help attract interest in your gig.
If
you have a larger image such as a band photo, poster, etc., the place to include
them is in the Description area as described at
4 above.
5.
You can see how your event will appear by clicking Preview
and a pop-up screen will appear so you can adjust your listing if needed.
Here's what the Preview screen might look like:
If
a change is needed, close the screen and adjust whatever needs to be adjusted.
6.
Lower on the event entry screen, you can choose This event
repeats if it does and pick the appropriate repetition. For gigs that
only repeat for two days (e.g. Fri & Sat), check Fri,
Sat & Weekly and select the Repeat Until
date as the last day of the two days involved.
PLEASE
NOTE: For most repetitive gigs, I've pre-entered generic listings on the calendar.
You can determine this if after clicking on your gig you scroll down and see
Repeat Until after the This
Event Repeats area.
If
you amend the repetitive gig entry
for that day, the listing will repeat for whatever frequency normally applies
for example, if you have a special guest to be added for the day, he or she
would be listed as appearing every week, etc. rather
than just the one week involved.
In
this case, it's best to just click the Update
button
and when the editable calendar returns, click
Add Event. Then simply add any gig
specifics for the day as a new entry. The new entry for the same start time
will usually appear just below the generic one.
7.
To post your gig, click on the Save button
(for a new event) or the Update button
(for an updated event). Shortly, the editable version
of the calendar will appear with your gig listing.
If on posting there's
something you'd like to change, just click on your event's link on the calendar,
adjust the info as needed and click the Update button.
The amended calendar will re-appear with your changes.
You
can then close the calendar and go to
ottawabluesjazz.ca
to confirm that your listing is
on the DIY schedule on my site.
You
may need to refresh your browser to see your gig. Also, your browser should
be set to check for changes on every visit to avoid seeing older temporary
internet files before your change.
