'LIVE LIKE HELL', recorded live at a jam packed Cafe Campus in Montreal, February 1999, captures an electrifying vibe and demonstrates the talents of a guitarist at the pinnacle of his career. 'LIVE LIKE HELL', Tony's fourth album, was co-produced by Danny Greenspoon, perhaps best know for his production work on Great Big Sea's multi-platinum albums.
Backed by a stellar line up, THE TONY D BAND, includes: Zeek Gross on sax, Miche Pouliot (k.d. Lang, Jann Arden) on drums, bassist Sean Burke, Cam Scott handles the organ duties. On 'LIVE LIKE HELL', Tony tears through a cross-section of fan favourites and TONY D originals.
The Cd kicks off with two signature instrumentals, Hold It , where D takes the bull by the horns and Collins Mix, a tribute to the late Albert Collins. His performance hits full stride with an original tune, The Right Kind of Crazy , where Tony rises to the stratosphere, building and burning solo after solo.
Friend and very special guest, Sue Foley, joins the band, where she adds an absolutely haunting vocal performance on Angela Strelhi's A Lost Cause. Besides complimenting Tony with her vocal styling, Sue's guest performance also demonstrates her sensational guitar playing on No Doubt and Hot Little Mama.
Along with seven European tours, national status in Canada and now four albums under his belt, TONY D has established himself as a player and performer who delivers the goods.
At 19 years of age, Tony had the pleasure of performing with the legendary Buddy Guy, starting a trend that would see him share the stage with such greats as Luther Allison, Bryan Adams and Michelle Shocked. A consummate performer, TONY D, has supported the likes of both Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan, Albert Collins, Robben Ford and The Doobie Brothers.
Tony has also toured throughout Europe with Jeff Healey; in Denmark to rave reviews, including an outstanding performance in front of 20,000 crazed fans at The Skanderborg festival. Another side of Tony that is not that well known is his contribution to entertaining Canadian troops for eight memorable days in war torn Bosnia, an experience that changed his life.
Tony has become so well respected in his home town by the blues community that when Glady's Knight cancelled out at this years Ottawa Blues Festival, organizers turned to Tony who not only filled in but engaged the audience with a dynamic performance that drew the first standing ovation of the weekend.
