Ottawa Swing Kinqs Debut C.D. Release: 'Tribute to Benny"

Press Release

September 1, 2001

The swing era sounds of the 1930's & 40's will fill the air of the National Press Club on Thursday October 4 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The evening will feature the music of the Ottawa Swing Kings, an energetic jazz ensemble that is proud to announce the release of its very first recording entitled "Tribute to Benny". This C.D. highlights many of the hit tunes of the original Benny Goodman Quartet.

Co-founded & co-led by Ottawa veteran musician & vibist Peter Fleming and clarinetist Scott Poll, this lively group also features jazz pianist Art Lawless, bassist Gerry Heike & drummer Glenn Robb.

Since the bands inception in 1998, the Ottawa Swing Kings (formerly the Benny Goodman Tribute Band), have been actively performing both outside and within the Ottawa area. Some of the highlights of the last three years include opening for Toronto's Spitfire Band as well as the famed Canadian Glenn Miller Orchestra. The group has also graced the stage at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival for the last three summers.
